Minecraft in a Browser: Classic and Community Versions

Choose between Mojang’s Minecraft Classic and the separate Minecraft 1.8.8 browser project. Compare editions, controls and entry requirements before opening a game.

Start with the exact edition

Minecraft Classic is Mojang’s browser release of its early creative-building experience. It has 32 blocks and the limitations of that historical version. It does not provide the current Java or Bedrock game.

The separate Minecraft 1.8.8 entry in this directory opens a community browser player. Its version, multiplayer options and loading behavior belong to that project. Do not expect a Classic link to answer questions about later dimensions, capes or Dungeons.

Choose a practical starting point

Choose Classic when you want the original early building experience. Open it on a computer with a keyboard; the official release describes WebGL and WebRTC browser requirements. Wait for generation and enter a username on its start screen.

Choose the community entry only when its stated version fits your task. Read that player’s own start and input instructions. Browser access does not transfer official Minecraft purchases, account entitlements or save compatibility.

Check before inviting friends

A page loading successfully does not establish that multiplayer connectivity will work on your network. Use the chosen project’s current invite or server instructions and check what edition each friend is using.

Keep the edition name in your notes and bookmarks. For current official releases, installation, account support and purchases, use Minecraft’s own website rather than a community browser port.
